Lady Cubs look for district win

Coming off a District 19-3A opening loss at Whitney, the Clifton Lady Cub volleyball team will be looking for its first district win this week.

After hosting Groesbeck Tuesday following press time, the Lady Cubs will visit Bruceville-Eddy at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Against Whitney last Friday, Clifton lost in straight sets, 18-25, 14-25, 15-25. The Lady Cubs (0-1 in district, 4-19 overall) lost their final non-district tuneup Sept. 5 in a hard-fought five set match to Frost, 21-25, 25-15, 19-25, 25-22, 9-15.

For Clifton, Katelynn Sadler contributed four blocks and three kills, Audrey Anderson three aces and 25 digs, Stephanie Schmidt five kills and 36 digs, Chelsea Ballesteros four kills and 33 digs, along with Elena Luna five kills and 21 digs

“The fifth game loss was tough,” Clifton volleyball head coach Jason Williams said “We learned a lot and got fired up out of a slump in the fourth match.”
