Cubs take over sole possession of first

By posting back-to-back run-rule victories to open the second round of District 19-3A competition, the 11th-ranked Clifton Cubs took sole possession of first place. Then on Saturday, the Cubs celebrated by posting a convincing 10-4 win over Class 2A’s sixth-ranked Bosqueville.

After making quick work of second-place Troy, 11-1, in five innings April 3, the Cubs had to outlast a lengthy weather delay to notch a 10-0 victory over winless Bruceville-Eddy last Friday.

Despite the long delay starting pitcher Carter Guinn returned to the mound to complete a no-hit perfect game, striking out nine in five innings of work.
