LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Body
WELCOME BIGFOOT Imagine our surprise when my husband and I drove past a pasture on 219 and here was Bigfoot hiking across the field! And just in time for Halloween to boot. The next thing we knew, Bigfoot had been joined by Mediumfoot! Hopefully, the two will be eventually joined by Littlefoot - or is that Littlefeet? Many thanks to the folks who did all this for the laughs and diversion when our world needs all the fun things we can get.

Finally Colorado-bound

Body
Man plans and God laughs--- one of my favorite proverbs--- akin to the principle of Murphy’s Law. After fifteen months without seeing the kids --- and after two COVID vaccinations, I began to plan my trip. Usually my son flies from Utah to meet me at my daughter’s and her husband’s home in Colorado. Sometimes I return with Josh to see his girlfriend and their dog--- and enjoy the many pleasures of Park City. I’m never there long enough to become fully acclimated to the altitude, so marathons are out. That was a joke.

Any day but Wednesday

Body
I knew I was missing something when we got a call from one of our male caregivers a couple of weeks ago with an unusual request. “Leave my Wednesdays alone,” Mr. O. politely but assertively instructed our staff. Coming from a very reliable caregiver with a live-in assignment (four days on-four days off), I just felt I needed to find out what was going on, so I asked him to the office.

County Wide Yard Sale

Body
Ah, the joys of the county wide yard sale! How I missed it last year because of COVID. Even when it was rescheduled, I was afraid to go. But now I’ve been vaccinated, and it’s outside. And I wore my mask even though almost no one else did. It may be sick, but as a previously enthusiastic but certainly not compulsive “yard sale-er”, I look forward to this annual event each year and try to enjoy it when I’m able. The Pot O’ Gold has filled this need somewhat in recent years. I suppose it’s the thrill of the hunt, exhausting as it is, hoping to find a treasure or bargain. It’s a time to see some folks I haven’t seen in ages, sometimes meet new neighbors and catch up with more familiar folks. This year, it seemed in many ways to me like a quirky metaphor for life in general.

Bosque County sheriff to interpret 2nd Amendment

Body
The Bosque County Commissioners Court unanimously passed a resolution to become a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary. This resolution empowers the county sheriff to determine if a law governing the right to bear arms is constitutional. If the sheriff believes the federal, state, county or city law does not comply to the Second Amendment, he does not have to enforce the law.

Masks in a post-vaccine era

Body
Our governor was called a Neanderthal. Does this make the rest of us Texans trickle-down deplorable Neanderthals? It’ll be old news by the time you read this. So I won’t expend too much energy on it. Let’s just use common sense. I don’t know many people who’ll forego the mask in enclosed spaces and close encounters with strangers. Our governor hasn’t demanded Texans all stop wearing masks. He just removed the mandate. Businesses may still require and/or suggest various measures. And people will make their own hopefully intelligent decisions.

FROM THE PUBLISHER’S DESK

Body
Fortunately for me, through the efforts of Goodall-Witcher Healthcare, both my husband and I have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to the staff of GWH on their administration of the vaccine. Scheduling was perfect with minimal wait, if any, both times I visited the Civic Center for my shots. The individuals in reception were welcoming and quickly put patients at ease. The same can be said for the staff that administered the vaccine. They were informative of what to expect before and after the shot. The gentleman who put a shot in my arm did so with such gentleness. I didn’t even wince.
