Meridian Band is expected to start practice today with the opening of school after it was announced Sunday that a band student has tested positive of coronavirus.

The student was last seen on campus August 10 during band camp.

“In accordance with state and national guidance, any person who attended band practices the week of August 10 should monitor their health for signs or symptoms of COVID and contact their primary health care physician if they develop symptoms,” said a released statement by Meridian Superintendant Kim Edwards.

MISD is currently contacting those individuals who may have had close contact with the individual.

MISD statement also said the school  has taken steps to sanitize areas that may have been accessed by the individual and will continue to monitor the situation and provide additional information as needed.

“Given the amount of time that has passed and extra measures that have been taken, band practice will resume on Monday, August 17,” said Edwards.
