Vanlandingham declares state of emergency due to drought

Early Monday morning Bosque County Judge Cindy Vanlandingham signed a declaration of disaster due to drought. She, along with other officials, determined the county had been affected by ‘extreme to exceptional drought conditions’, and wildfires continued to be a threat to lives and property because of the abundant fuel and dry and windy conditions.

The second annual Chisholm Chili cookoff, now dubbed the Chisholm Chili Trail Roundup, opens for a day of free activities across Meridian’s parks and Bosque Bottoms July 9. The Meridian Parks and Recreation invites all of Bosque County out for a day of family fun and entertainment, starting with a Classic Car Show and Shine from the CenTex Classics and Hot Rod Club at 9 a.m.

BCAD proposes 30.58% budget increase for 2023

In a letter to presiding officers of Bosque County taxing units, BCAD Chief Appraiser Chris Moser submitted a proposed 2023 budget reflecting a 30.58% increase to the overall budget, citing the need for more staff and the rising cost of business expenses for the additional approximately $240,000.

Court denies variance request

Bosque County commissioners met in regular session Monday, June 27, where they again did not grant a variance request within a subdivision. Alvin Childs asked commissioners Monday for a variance request to divide lots at Legends on the Brazos, citing an increased demand for smaller, more affordable lots.

Texas hay season looks bleak

The 2022 Texas hay production outlook appears in doubt due to high fertilizer prices and widespread drought, said Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service experts. Joe Paschal, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension livestock specialist, Corpus Christi, and Vanessa Corriher-Olson, Ph.D., AgriLife Extension forage specialist, Overton, said dry weather, high temperatures and reduced inputs like fertilizer have inhibited warm-season grass production across much of Texas.

Clifton ISD School Board considers SRO, marshal, guardian programs

Clifton ISD School Board met at the PAC in regular session on Monday, June 20 where they discussed available options for security services at school facilities. Not present for Monday night’s meeting was board secretary Courtney Mayfield, while board vice president Dr. Skylar Bizzell and trustee Matthew Domel arrived separately after the meeting had started.
