VFD emergency fund needs donations

Because of recent fires in Bosque County and the surrounding area, and with the potential for more widespread fires in the coming months, a fund has been set up benefitting all Bosque County volunteer fire departments.

Many times, as a groundwater conservation district we focus on brush control as a water conservation practice, but due to recent fire outbreaks the topic lends itself to more than just saving water. Dry vegetation, high winds, low humidity, lack of rainfall and above average temperatures have led to an unusual number of wildfires recently across the state.

Second grade visits with city admin, TNMP

All four second grade classes from Clifton Elementary went to the Clifton City Park on April 19th to learn about trees, recycling, and Johnny Appleseed. Clifton City Administrator David McDowell talked to the children about Johnny Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, and how he travelled all over the United States planting apple trees in the early 1800s.

Meridian’s Helping Hands fully opens doors in May

When COVID struck two years ago, North Bosque Helping Hands had to use a drivethrough format to keep clients and volunteers safe. Clients had to drive up to the pantry and honk, and a volunteer would come out to take their order, then return with food for the client.

Traffic deaths spike in highway work zones

The Texas Department of Transportation wants motorists to be aware of dangerous conditions in road construction zones after crashes in those zones killed 244 people last year. The death toll is an increase of 33% over 2020 and is the highest in 40 years.
