Meridian ISD school board discusses student safety in review of CIPA

Meridian ISD Cyber Security Officer BJ McDowell led discussion of the Children’s Internet Protection Act during Feb. 22’s school board meeting, highlighting actions the district has taken over the years to remain in compliance and continue receiving E-Rate funding (a program which makes telecommunications and information services more affordable for schools and libraries, according to the Federal Communications Commission).

Severe winter storm leaves lasting effects

Last week’s severe winter storm took its toll on Bosque County residents as the area remained under a sheet of snow and ice with below freezing temperatures for days on end. Communities across the county saw extended power outages, water shortages and unreliable cell phone service.

New cases of COVID-19 on the decline

As of 3:30 p.m. Monday, Texas DSHS reported 1,571 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Bosque County. 1,287 of those cases are confirmed and 284 are probable. 1,399 cases have recovered and there have been 28 deaths.

Council approves funding to bring tourism to Clifton

During February’s meeting, the Clifton City Council approved three different requests for funding, all coming from the city’s hotel/ motel fund. In order for the city to approve a request from the hotel/motel funds, any expenditures must directly enhance and promote tourism and the convention and hotel industry, and fit into one of nine categories, including improvement and maintenance, advertising, promotional expenses and signs directing tourists to sights and attractions.
