Dorma Jane Word Nickels, 89, of Clifton and formerly of Meridian, passed away at the Goodall-Witcher Nursing Facility in Clifton on July 14, 2020.

Funeral services were held Saturday, July 18, 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Meridian. Rev. Richard Creech will officiate. Burial followed at the Meridian Cemetery.

She was the second of four children born to Charles K. Word and Rosemary Dorman Word of Meridian.

She attended school in Meridian and after graduating attended Baylor University then transferring to Texas Woman’s University where she stayed through her Sophomore year.

She married Roy Lee Nickels of Meridian and they had two sons James Bradley and Robert Dorman Nickels.

She and her husband operated a dairy until 1960 when they moved to Denver City, Texas where Roy ran an automotive repair business.

In 1973 the family moved back to the family ranch in Bosque County. Dorma stayed home and raised both boys until they graduated school then she went to work for the Mclennan County MHMR office in Meridian.

After retiring from MHMR she stayed busy in her church, First Baptist of Meridian, until her health prevented her from actively being present.

Her family includes her husband Roy Lee Nickels, Sons James Bradley Nickels and his wife Cristi, Robert Dorman Nickels and his wife Terrye, three grandchildren Tony Jeffs, James Russell Nickels and Alyssa Sessions and two great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews.
