Cubs struggle to start season

Never shying away from challenging nondistrict competition, the Class 3A, Division II Clifton Cubs continued their gauntlet run through tough opponents last week in preparation for District 13-3A, DII play. Playing a perennial powerhouse, the Cubs went toe-to-toe with Class 2A, DI Bosqueville, but the Bulldogs hung on in a hard-fought game for a 21-7 victory over Clifton Friday night in Cub Stadium.

Brett Voss Still in search of that elusive first victory, the Class 1A Meridian Lady Jacket volleyball team continues to improve as they prepare to open district competition in two weeks. Playing only one match last week, the Lady Jackets fell in straight sets, 25-8, 25-14, 25-12, to the Class 3A Whitney Wildcats last Tuesday in Yellow Jacket Gymnasium.

Brett Voss The Sports Buzz On the road to recovery, the Class 2A, Division II Meridian Yellow Jackets began working toward restoring their once proud football program to a place of prominence as the 2022 Texas high school football season turned on the Friday night lights. But traveling to Itasca proved to be a tough way to open the season last Friday night when the Wampus Cats handed the Jackets a convincing 58-0 loss as Meridian’s new head coach Jim Kerbow returned to the school he had served the previous three seasons.
