Time To Hoop It Up

Body
After coming up just short of capturing back-to-back trips to the Class 3A state playoffs, the still young Clifton Cubs enter the 2023-24 Texas high school boys basketball season with the experience and drive to compete for the postseason.

Cubs reap accolades for success

Body
With making the playoffs always the expectation, not the goal, for the Clifton Cubs football program, the accomplishment of back-to-back trips to the Class 3A postseason gave the senior-laden squad plenty to celebrate for the 2023 Texas high school football season. Reaping the rewards of success when the All-District 13-3A, Division II selections were announced last week, senior Parker Tunnell was named the Co-Offensive MVP, senior Riley Finney was named the Co-Defensive MVP, sophomore Luis Galindo was named the Co-Defensive Newcomer of the Year, junior Brody Baggett was named the Utility Player of the Year, while seven Cubs drew all-district first-team honors.

Time To Hoop It Up

Body
Under new leadership, the Clifton Lady Cubs entered the 2023-24 Texas high school girls basketball season armed with an experienced squad and a burning desire to back into the Class 3A playoffs. With two highly-competitive tournaments and a host of non-district games already under their belts, the Lady Cubs appear to be headed in the right direction.

On Their Path To Glory

Body
After catching everyone by surprise last season, the Class 1A, Division II’s 10th-ranked Iredell Dragons have stormed past opponents throughout the 2023 Texas high school six-man football campaign despite still fielding a young team. And as they prepare to face the long-awaited and hoped for postseason opponent, the Dragons aren’t done yet.

Bosque County six-man battles in postseason

Body
And then there was one. After three of Bosque County’s five six-man football teams advanced to the Class 1A, Division II state tournament, only the 14thranked Iredell Dragons came off the field following a round of Bi-District Playoff games under the Friday night lights victorious.

Slip Sliding Away

Body
Without a doubt, it just wasn’t their night. After making their second straight trip to the Class 3A, Division II football state playoffs, the Clifton Cubs came up short in their quest to capture their first postseason victory since 2019.

Lady Cubs draw district accolades

Body
After winning a playoff game for the first time in 20 years, the Clifton Lady Cubs received the volleyball accolades that came as a result of their third straight trip to the Class 3A state tournament. Led by senior Kate Humphreys selected as the All-District 17-3A Server of the Year and freshman Brystel Wise named Blocker of the Year, the Lady Cubs placed two more on the first-team, two on the second team, and drew two honorable mentions.

Taking Positive Steps

Body
TePs Despite the football program taking steps in the right direction and working hard to improve throughout the 2023 Texas high school football regular season, the Meridian Yellowjackets did not get the ending to their season they wanted. In a hard-fought, even-matchup against district 10-2A, Division II rival Frost, the Jackets could not overcome a disastrous start as the Polar Bears hung on for a 22-14 victory in the regular season finale for both teams last Friday night at Jacket Stadium.

Body
Continuing to rebuild the young volleyball program rebooted only four years ago, the Meridian Lady Jackets advanced to the Class 1A state playoffs for the fourth straight season. Unfortunately, the success story ended there...for now.
