JO ANN MULHAUESEN

Jo Ann was born August 3, 1949 in Fort Worth, Texas into an abusive family situation. She was placed in the Lena Pope Home in Fort Worth at an early age.

As a teenager, Tommie Albright became acquainted with Jo Ann while on a mission project. She persuaded her wealthy aunt, Ouida Albright to take an interest in Jo Ann. Ms. Albright started taking Jo Ann home for visits then obtaining court permission for custody when Jo Ann was 4 years old but it was several more years before legal adoption was complete and Jo Ann became a poor little rich girl.

She attended high school at Judson, a private boarding school at Scottsdale, Arizona, went to TCU, UT Austin, and Houston University.

Jo Ann became a stock broker in Houston in the early 70’s when women were not allowed to be stockbrokers. Then she started selling oil and gas partnerships for drilling and production. She did quite well financially by the time she was 30.

Jo Ann moved to El Paso and married Charles Hammond and adopted his daughters.

Jo Ann was quite active in business and civic affairs in El Paso. With the banking, real estate and energy crash in the mid eighties, she was victimized by fraud and false claims by the IRS. She lost all her assets, her marriage and endured eight years of lawsuits clearing her name. She didn’t recover any assets but was cleared by the IRS and awarded future tax relief.

Jo Ann and her family moved to Dallas in the late 90’s. She married Elmer Mulhausen in July, 2000. They moved to a home on Lake Whitney in 2002.

After extensive remodeling, they operated Lakehaven Bed and Breakfast for a few years, Lakehaven Fine Dining Club and hosted numerous meetings and banquets.

Jo Ann was a gourmet cook and loved to serve people. In the past few years, as age began catching up with Elmer and Jo Ann, they retired Lakehaven Bed and Breakfast.

Jo Ann was preceded by her mother Ouida Albright.

She is survived by husband, Elmer Mulhausen, of Lake Whitney, Texas; sister, Glenda Dodd, of Waco, Texas; daughters, Avery Rowles, of Crum, Texas; Laura Hammond, of Wichita Falls, Texas; Crystal Cantrell, of Waco, Texas; and son, Charles Hammond, of Addison, Texas. Stepchildren, John Mulhausen and wife, Jeanne of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Sheryl Mulhausen of Lewisville, Texas; Teresa Federspiel of Plano, Texas; David Mulhausen of Statesburg, Georgia, and 26 loving grandchildren and great grandchildren and many dear friends.

Due to Covid-19 concerns, a small family memorial service was held at Zion United Church at Womack, Texas on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at 2:00 p.m.
