Genealogical Society and DAR to hold joint seminar on June 5

The Bosque County Genealogical Society and The Bosque River Valley Chapter NSDAR are holding a joint membership drive and DNA Workshop on Saturday, June 5, 2021, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Clifton Civic Center. The program is free of charge and is a great opportunity to hear two very knowledgeable speakers in the area of DNA family research.

Bosque County homes fall below required appraisal district levels

Central Appraisal District learned that the State Comptroller’s Property Value Study showed the district was well below required appraisal levels. The State auditor checks local sales in Bosque County and compares those sales to appraisal district values. The appraisal district is supposed to be at 100% of market value, plus or minus 5% of that sale price. The study showed that single family homes were at 91% of sales prices and rural homes were at 87%. The appraisal district failed five school districts with two districts being put in a year of grace to get the values correct. It is incumbent on the appraisal district to raise the values to at least 95% this tax year or the schools of Bosque County will begin to lose state funding.

-Daniel Ruiz Herrera, of Walnut Springs, was arrested by Bosque County on May 26 for assault family violence. -Dante Efoing Pryor, of Stamford, was arrested by the Clifton Police Department on May 26 for the possession of a dangerous drug, unlawfully carrying a weapon and the possession of marijuana less than two ounces.

Expert panel discusses trafficking risks

The Heart of Texas Human Trafficking Coalition held a viewing of the documentary, Boys, at the CLIFTEX Theatre last Tuesday, followed by a panel discussion from experts in the field. The purpose of the viewing and discussion was to help educate law enforcement officers, educators, healthcare personnel and concerned citizens about how to recognize key indicators of human trafficking within the community.

DAR donates to Bosque County libraries

In early May, Bosque River Valley Chapter, NSDAR, donated the book, Revolutionary Mothers: Women in the Struggle for America’s Independence, by Carol Berkin, to the libraries of all eight school districts in Bosque County and to all four public libraries.

Class of 2021 graduates in Meridian

Meridian High School seniors celebrated the end of their high school career as the community turned out to watch them accept their diplomas. Senior Russell Flournoy delivered the invocation asked for strength and perseverance for him and his class as they prepare to embark on a new journey.

Lady Justice returns to her perch

Lady Justice returned to her rightful place atop the Bosque County Courthouse on Memorial Day, thanks to Judge Cindy Vanlandingham, Bosque County maintenance staff and Parsons Roofing.
