Boots Kretzmeier departed this life on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at the age of 73

Military graveside services were held at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission, Texas, under the direction of Foss Funeral Home and Cremation Center.

Memorials may be made to the Valley Mills High School Agriculture Department.

Boots was born in Sinton, Texas to Benson and Jo Ann Kretzmeier. He is a graduate of Walnut Springs High School and attended Texas A&M University. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Boots grew up working within many of his family’s owned and operated businesses in Walnut Springs, which included KS Ranch, J&B Wool and Mohair, J&B Food Locker Plant, and Walnut Springs Lumber Company. Boots continued on with his own businesses, Kretzmeier Fur Company, KS Ranch, and Kretzmeier Trading Company. He was involved in buying and selling furs, wool, mohair, pecans, and produce, along with farming/ranching and merchandise trading.

He is survived by his mother, Jo Ann Hall; children and their spouses Boots & Kerri Kretzmeier and Christi & Wesley Hillin; his grandchildren McKenzie Kretzmeier, Court Kretzmeier, Merritt Kretzmeier, Carson Hillin, and Lillian Hillin. He is also survived by his brother, Rudy Kretzmeier and wife Connie Jo; niece, Cheryl Taliaferro and husband Chris, and great niece and nephew, Maddie Taliaferro and Sam Taliaferro. He is preceded in death by his father, Benson Kretzmeier.
