George Archer York passed away peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, January 4, 2022.  He was 74.

George was born on February 17, 1947, in Meridian, to Thomas and Vinnie York.  He grew up in the Bosque County area.  In 1964 he joined the United States Navy and was discharged in 1967 as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class.  He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years.  He was actively part of the VFW, American Legion and the N.A.L.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sisters Opal Stupp, Dorothy Crouch, Norma Smith and Gladys Weaver.

He is survived by his loving wife Linda C. York of Clifton; daughters Pricilla and husband David Shortnacy of Joshua, Jennifer and husband Shawn Dickens of Clifton; sons Thomas York, George C. York and adopted son Kevin Hicks all from Waco; brother Adam York of Waco; sister Addie Elin of Waco; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.

He was a loving, caring husband, daddy and papa.  He always had a smile on his face and a great joke or story to tell.

Graveside service was held on January 8, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Bethlehem Cemetery in Whitney.
