The Bosque Film Society rang in the new year by reinvigorating the Valley Mills Public Library’s film collection. The new film appreciation group donated 200 DVDs so the residents of Valley Mills can seek art and entertainment closer to home at their local library.

Mark your calendars now for the upcoming Bosque County Genealogical Society DNA workshop to be held on Saturday, February 12 at the Clifton Civic Center. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. The speaker, Patti Huff Smith, will begin with a quick review about DNA and how to use your DNA results from your testing site company. The January Chapter meeting is designated as the meeting during which DAR Good Citizens are hosted by Bosque River Valley Chapter, NSDAR. Three Bosque County schools participated in late 2021 with the selection of a DAR Good Citizen. Congratulations to Griffin Phillips, Clifton High School; Trenton Roberson, Cranfills Gap High School; and Brianna Benitez, Iredell High School. Trenton Roberson was not able to attend the meeting because he was on a fire call. Yes, Trenton is a volunteer firefighter with the Cranfills Gap Volunteer Fire Department. This is an example of how these outstanding students are involved in community service.

Attorney and Clifton resident Herb Haschke said in 2015 the Census Bureau showed 45 million people were over the age of 65, and by 2050 they estimated 88 million people will be over 65. As the elderly population has grown, so has the number of reported cases of elder abuse, and though there are different types of abuse, some of the more common types involve money and assets.

On January 29, the Bosque County Democratic Party hosted the Democratic Candidate tour for District 22 of the Texas Senate at the Old City Hall in Valley Mills. District 22 SD of the Texas Senate is a senatorial district that currently serves all of Bosque, Ellis, Falls, Hill, Hood, Johnson, McLennan, Navarro, Somervell counties and portions of Tarrant County in the U.S.

VFW Post 8553 of Clifton held an awards banquet on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the VFW Hall to present awards to Bosque County participants and winners in the 2021 VFW Voice of Democracy Contest.

More than threehundred-years of New Orleans revelry and celebration comes to Bosque County on Saturday, February 12, when the Bosque Arts Center Tin Building Theatre will be busting at the seams with sights, sounds, and good times with the celebration of Mardi Gras!

On Monday, January 10, 2022, services for fallen Meridian Police Officer, Wayne “Butch” Nowell, were held at Meridian Civic Center. Officer Nowell perished in his home after complications from COVID-19 on December 29, 2021.

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service in Bosque County will be hosting a Private Applicators Pesticide training on Friday, February 4, 2022, located at 104 S Fuller in Meridian. Registration will begin at 8:15 a.m. with the training starting at 8:30 a.m. and continue until noon.
