Clifton cross country advances

After enjoying a wealth of success throughout the invitational meet season, the Clifton boys and girls cross country teams put together some of their best races of the year when they needed them most. Competing in the District 17-3A Championships at Rex Callicott Park in Keene last Wednesday, both the Clifton boys and the Lady Cubs captured the overall team silver medal behind district champion Keene.

Bosque County six-man squads open district

With the 2022-24 University Interscholastic League realignment last February, the all-Bosque County six-man football district became a thing of the past. And while the five six-man football schools will be facing some new opponents when the Texas high school football season moves into district competition this week, some of the key rivalries will remain in play.

After opening District 10-2A, Division II by facing arguably the best three teams first, the Meridian Yellow Jackets now turn their attention to competing with the rest of the pack for a playoff berth. And it all begins on the road this week at Hubbard.

After getting their first win of the season in their District 18-1A opener, the expectation of the Meridian Lady Jacket volleyball team changed dramatically. Despite losing every non-district match they played during the 2022 Texas high school volleyball season, the Lady Jackets enter each district clash expecting to win.

So when non-district schedules were filled in, the area teams arranged the annual matchups to continue.

After playing a gauntlet of non-district opponents and playing well enough to win each game, the Clifton Cubs get a fresh start after an open week by opening District 13-3A, Division II competition by facing the Rogers Eagles on the road at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Lady Cubs open second round of District 17-3A with victory over Keene

Riding the momentum of their strong showing in the first round of District 17-3A competition, the Clifton Lady Cubs extended their win streak to three straight with a fourset victory over the Keene Lady Chargers, 25-21, 25-18, 24-26, 25-10, last Tuesday in the Clifton High School Gymnasium.

Jackets fall in Wortham

Taking the field every week as the smallest 11man football team in Texas, the Meridian Yellow Jackets have faced their challenges head on from the opening kickoff in every game during the 2022 Texas high school football season. Coming off a 49-0 loss to the Wortham Bulldogs, the Jackets will face yet another stout District 102A, Division II opponent when Meridian (0-2 in district, 0-6 overall) hosts the Dawson Bulldogs at 7 p.m.
